Steelyards, biscuit factories, furniture warehouses, whisky distilleries; just a few of the spots Dram & Smoke have popped up in before and a theme of venue uniqueness continues here. Taking inspiration from the Gaelic term ‘bothy’ - a small hut or cottage used as a mountain refuge – the project seeks to provide shelter from the depths of winter within an indulgent sanctuary that’s all flickering lanterns, aromas of pine smoke, warming tartan blankets, and highland hospitality. The room itself is dominated by a 50ft wreath in the roof, exposed brickwork, steel rafters, hanging festoon lights and three rows of lavish timber banquet tables around which guests will enjoy a boisterous banquet that’s all about getting stuck in and hanging out with your neighbours.

A warming hot toddy cocktail welcomes guests on their yuletide adventure and whilst you won’t find nativity scenes or tinsel, the theatre of an open-kitchen, Christmas games, a Karaoke room, DIY DJ station, live music nights, roaming treats sled and a profoundly supportive in-house policy on sing-a-longs mean that festive cheer is firmly on the menu. This agenda will be bolstered by the in-house host and compère for the evening, Highland Santa, who’s meanderings will result in hilarity, gifts, boozy stories and general spontaneous good times.

At a time of year when chipolata overload is a distinct possibility, the Bothy Nights menu brings big festive flavour with a Scottish twist. Light-your-own chocolate candles, edible wrapped presents, blowtorched joints of meat and gastronomical surprises around every corner.... a typical, drab Christmas dinner this is not. To kick things off, a play on a classic Christmas spread served á la skewer; Battered Brussel, Turkey & Stuffing Nugget, Parsnip Noodle, Buckfast Cranberry Sauce & Sourdough Sauce. Next up an indulgent Cheese Fondue primed and ready for dunking with Veggie Haggis Mince Pie, Rosemary Crispbreads, Truffle Popcorn and Pickles. The main delivers a slice of comforting wintry joy in the form of a Glazed Cola Ham with Garlic Roast Potatoes, Spiced Scratchings and Charred Pineapple served family-style with a slew of seasonal sides and lashings of Gravy & Brandy Mustard. This is a seriously gutsy spread – huge flavours, abundant sides piled high and roll-your-sleeves-up-and-get-stuck-in presentation. Finally, slice-at-the-table Mulled Apple Terrine, Dark Chocolate Candle, Cardamom Ice Cream and Gingerbread served alongside a paired cocktail brings the feast to an epic close. An alternative veggie menu is on offer and all dietary requirements are catered for provided previous notice is given.

Dinner lasts around two hours and thereafter late-night, Christmas party vibes kick in with the addition of table tennis and a host of other ‘play-with-one-hand-with-drink-in-the-other’ games that will be in the mix for those with ants in their pants and a competitive spirit. As the night wears on flexing those karaoke skills becomes a must. Nobody’s going thirsty at Bothy Nights. Front & centre at the fully-stocked, eggnog-free bar is the Naughty or Nice cocktail list. If you can handle some serious peat then get naughty with our Smokehead Whisky options which will not so much keep Jack Frost at bay as much as uppercut him square in the mouth. Or be a little angel & sip on some dainty Edinburgh Gin numbers. If that’s not enough, there will also be Old Fashioneds on tap.

Serving both lunch and dinner, Bothy Nights will be open for ticketed events throughout December. Full takeovers are also on the cards for those searching for their very own piece of bothy adventure. Either way, guests can say goodbye to December soirées with lame party hats, stale ambience and boring food and come get a little lost in the Highlands this Christmas.

Your ticket includes a welcome cocktail, 4 course feast (veggie menu), paired dessert cocktail, karaoke room, Christmas games, live music and access to our bar after dinner until late (dinner finishes at around 9.30pm).

Book early to avoid disappointment.
