The Best Christmas Trees In London... Bars

Is there anything better than a Christmas tree at Christmas? We think not - and that besides a perfectly crafted Christmas cocktail, nothing evokes festive cheer more. Well…what if we told you that some of London’s VERY BEST Christmas trees can be found within some of London’s VERY BEST bars. And that we’ve rounded up the best of the best to bring you a definitive list of the top ten? Christmas drinks x Christmas trees?! You. Are. Welcome.

1. Artesian at The Langham
This beautiful installation of trees sits just outside the bar itself in the lobby, and is one of our faves. It’s the lighting that makes it - the collection of trees is wonderfully adorned with hundreds of tiny little fairy lights, which twinkle and bounce off the shiny walls and mirrors. As well as presents underneath the trees there is a selection of Globe Trotter luggage stacked up beside… (Santa must have delivered Team DrinkUp’s Christmas presents directly to the bar)

2. Claridge's Bar at Claridge's
Another firm favourite amongst the DrinkUp team, this Christmas tree and surrounding installation is a-maz-ing. Truly. A collaboration with Christian Louboutin, one central glorious tree is adorned with beautiful decorations including teeny little shoes (naturally) and surrounded by a whole host of other, snow frosted trees. Guests are invited to step inside  the “Loubi Expresss” train carriage, where even the cocktails have been inspired by the famous designer. If you fancy a snack and are feeling flush, then we would highly recommend the infamous Lobster Wellington, which is verging on embarrassingly decadent. Although…when would you order it if not at Christmas!
(Note: You can jump on board the Loubi Express from Tuesday-Saturday until 31 December. Reservations aren’t possible, but even if you aren’t able to grab a seat – it’s worth a visit just to take a look on the way through to Claridge's Bar)

3. Happiness Forgets
Ok, as a pre-empt, we’re not suggesting you should compare this tree to the ones within the hotel bars we’ve included in this feature, which have been created by eminent designers and undoubtedly cost thousands of pounds. But this traditional Christmas tree is a wonderful festive welcome at the door of one of our favourite Shoreditch venues, has been lovingly decorated by the team themselves, and gave us a little festive boost as we entered the bar. What’s not to love?

4. The Savoy
Well, The Savoy have truly gone all out once again this year with their “Twelve Rebuilds of Christmas” collab with Lego – and not only does it look INCREDIBLE, it involves a treasure-hunt around the hotel - which means that you could be propping up The American Bar whilst your kids (or, y’know…your significant other) are occupied. As well as some beautiful actual Christmas trees surrounding a Lego castle – there’s also a Lego dragon-come-Christmas tree (yes, really), Santa’s life-size Lego motorbike (we KNEW Santa was too cool to drive a sleigh) and various other creations dotted around the hotel that made us feel like big kids in a toy store.

5. Lobby Bar at The Edition
Now, this tree, which has been named “The Christmas Dream”, might not be everyone’s cup of tea…especially if you are Christmas traditionalists like some of the DrinkUp team. However – it is definitely a beautiful site to behold. The tree structure, created by florist Mark Colle is the largest on our list, scaling an enormous 6m and has been impressively adorned by British artist Luke Edward Hall. Along with the colourful lights, vintage baubels, ribbons and streamers are large cut out illustrated angels (and swans and foxes) and the tree is topped with a gold ship to evoke the idea of drifting off into a dream…like we said, not necessarily "traditional", but undoubtedly worth a visit to decide for yourself!

6. The Terrace Bar at The Chesterfield Mayfair
If traditional Christmas is more  your thing – then pay a visit to The Chesterfield Mayfair, who have really leant into the classic Christmas vibes. Think red baubels, gold bows, bunches of cinnamon and angels on the top of the trees dotted throughout the whole hotel, adorned by florist Pascal Lavorel. They’ve even got festive hot chocolate and mulled wine on the menu to enjoy whilst you get into the Christmas spirit, and if you’re lucky enough to be staying at the hotel – when you check in you’ll be taken to one of the trees and given a present from underneath it! How lovely!

7. Callooh Callay
This is the first time the team at Callooh Callay have invited a professional to dress the bar for Christmas – and we think it looks fab. Not one but TWO lovely Christmas trees have been installed, along with a garland surrounding *that* famous wardrobe door. We think the whole thing screamed cosy, classy Christmas as soon as we set foot through the door – and combined with their festive drinks offering – this is our choice of party place for the Christmas period.

8. Perception at W
Another slightly “out there” Christmas tree that split the DrinkUp team a bit. Inspired by none other than Lady Gaga – how could we not include this INFLATABLE Christmas tree from designer Jack Irving which sits in the hotel’s first floor lobby. Now this installation screams more “space travel” than “Christmas”, however, it is shaped like a Christmas tree, is complimented by giant Christmas present bows on the reception desks, and actually sits really well alongside the disco balls hanging throughout the space. So…more of a celebration of Christmas party season rather than the chestnuts roasting by an open fire…but…relevant all the same!

9. The Drop
We felt it would be remiss to not include a wine bar in our run down of bars with Christmas Trees…and the favourite from the team was The Drop at Coal Drops Yard. The tree sits just outside the bar, and is traditionally and tastefully decorated - perfect if you prefer to sit on their heated terrace draped in your (faux) furs, sipping on your sherry. Cheers!

10. The Library Bar at The Lanesborough
We really went back and forth as to whether include this creation which has popped up at The Lanesborough Hotel. There’s no arguing that it’s absolutely beautiful….but is it a Christmas tree? Well, in the classic sense – no. BUT, it is a tree. And it has been erected to celebrate Christmas…so…technically…it’s a Christmas Tree! Inspired by couture brand Ralph and Russo, and created by floral designer Tony Marklew this 'Christmas tree', is a combination of crystal chandeliers and pink flowers, designed to celebrate British luxury. We feel like this is a Christmas tree best appreciated with a glass of champagne in hand.
