The end of 2018 brought with it the sad news that a man of pivotal importance to the cocktail and spirits world had passed away.
Mark Ridgwell had a long and impressive career in the spirits industry, before turning his hand to spirits education, demonstrating the need of a recognised qualification.
Mark contributed invaluable expertise and tireless enthusiasm during the development of the Wine & Spirit Education Trust's first ever spirits-focussed qualification (launched in 2004). Alongside a team of iconic subject experts, Mark’s teaching was an inspirational experience that drew many into the industry where they are now leading and educating the next generation.
The Mark Ridgwell Scholarship is a collaborative effort between London Union & The Mixing Class, which will annually offer SIX successful applicants a scholarship place onto a WSET Level 2 Award in Spirits, generously funded by Jonathan Downey & London Union.
In order to apply for a scholarship place, bartenders must email [email protected] to request an application form and a copy of the selection criteria.
Applications will be judged by Jonathan Downey - alongside Hannah Lanfear, Kevin Armstrong and Hannah Sharman-Cox - all of whom trained under Mark's careful eye.
Successful applicants will be announced in the London Cocktail Week edition of CLASS magazine.
Submissions must be made no later than Wednesday 18 September.
