Award-winning subterranean whisky bar Black Rock, launched by Tom Aske and Tristan Stephenson in 2016, will expand over five floors this summer to include a second bar, a blending room for guest experiences, and lodgings – making it the first whisky hotel in London!

Located in the basement of a four-storey building in Shoreditch, the award-winning Black Rock set out with a mission to quash stuffy stereotypes about the whisky world, with its stylish, stripped-back decor, hip-hop soundtrack and library of more than 250 bottles. Now the entire site (formerly Sack, Devil's Darling and The Napoleon Hotel) will be dedicated to all things whisky, with a casual tavern and terrace on the ground floor; a first-floor blending room devoted to tasting experiences; and guest rooms taking over the top floors, featuring three minimalist suites.

Black Rock Tavern (Open NOW!)

As a nod to the famous 18ft oak-tree table in the original bar below, Black Rock Tavern also features reclaimed oak decor, this time with a Japanese twist with bamboo ceiling panels and unique graffiti wall art by Ryan Gajda. There are five draught beers on tap, a range of highball whisky cocktails, plus an edited selection of 40-50 whiskies, still served in Black Rock’s three accessible price tiers. More informal than its sibling bar below, guests at the Tavern will be able to order drinks from its feature oak bar, as they sit at bar stools, in cosy booths or stand at high tops both inside and outside when enjoying drinks alfresco.
Black Rock Tavern is open now to visit!

Blending room (Opening summer 2019)

Above Black Rock Tavern sits a light and airy blending room where guests will be able to blend their own whisky. Available for pre-booked sessions, guests will be greeted with an ice-cold whisky highball before sitting down for a vertical tasting of single malts. During the in-depth session, guests will learn more about blended whisky and its history as they blend a selection of single malts themselves, taking away a 500ml bottle filled with their own unique blend.
Bookings can be made from the first week of July for September onwards.

Black Rock Lodgings (Opening late summer 2019)

Reflecting Black Rock’s minimalist but luxurious style, two compact rooms will be situated on the second floor, while a larger suite will take over the third. All three rooms will feature whisky touches throughout providing the ultimate experience for whisky lovers or those seeking understated affordable luxury in the heart of the city.
Bookings can be made from the first week of July for September onwards.
