Bar Douro have announced the latest date in their “In Conversation With” series of wine dinners, throwing a spotlight on some of the more unusual aspects of Portuguese winemaking, hosted by renowned wine writer Sarah Ahmed.  On Tuesday 19th June, Bar Douro will welcome award-winning female winemaker Susana Esteban to the restaurant, exploring Susana’s own wines with detailed tasting notes, and paired with a feast of Bar Douro’s signature dishes.

Taking place on Bar Douro’s upstairs mezzanine from 7pm, Sarah will be ‘In Conversation’ with Spanish-born Susana, the first - and still the only - female to have been awarded the prestigious "Best winemaker of the Year” (by Revista dos Vinhos in 2012). Guests will have the chance to sample over eight wines, accompanied by Bar Douro’s signature dishes including Croquettes de Alheira, Iberico Pork Ribs and Charcuterie.

Susana started her career in wine in the Douro region in 1999, but decided to establish herself as a producer in the Alentejo region in 2009. Her wines are blends from vineyards across the Alentejo – hence the ‘adventures’ (which is also the name of one of her wines and they’ve gone from strength to strength, receiving the award “Revelation Producer of the Year 2015” by the respected Magazine “Wine – Essência do Vinho.” Recently she has begun collaborations with other winemakers, including ‘Sidecar’ (with fellow Galician Eulogio Pomares) and ‘Sem Vergonha’ (with Dirk Niepoort).

The wine dinner will be held at Bar Douro on 19th June from 7-9pm, with tickets priced at £50 per guest; and can be booked by emailing [email protected] or calling 020 7378 0524. There will then be a break for the summer, with wine dinners returning in October.
