Design My Night Says…
Chris Moore, formerly of Savoy's Beaufort Bar, is bringing an air of je ne sais quoi to Bethnal Green's resident French restaurant bar. The drinks, by head bartender Frank Dedieu, represent the best of the regions of France, with signatures including Apples, with Calvados and carbonated cold-pressed apple juice, Truffled White Negroni; and the Champagne Piña Colada. French fare includes the standard cheese, tartare and charcuterie with larger dishes like whole roasted lamb shoulder served with wild garlic and baby gem, confit duck leg with orange glazed salsify and chicken liver parfait with crispy skin and seasonal chutney.Read more…
Square Meal Says…
This Bethnal Green bolthole comes complete with a French accent. Housed on the ground floor of a 160-year old building, Coupette remixes history by serving up twists on classic French sips. Overseeing the venue is Chris Moore, former head bartender of the Beaufort Bar at The Savoy. Moore’s menu is divided into six sections each containing six drinks, inspired by the borders of France; expect to find the likes of a Truffled White Negroni and a Champagne-based Pina Colada... Coffee and pastries are available for the early-morning crowd and there’s a French twist on weekend brunch too, featuring truffled scrambled eggs with smoked eel.Read more…
The Nudge Says…
The bar is set to have a focus on bringing French drinks into the spotlight, especially at the bi-monthly tasting nights known as the Calvados Club, when producers and growers will fly over from France to personally guide you through these regional gems. On the menu, you can expect to find Champagne from small-scale growers, vermouths and calvados (an apple brandy from Normandy) worked into cocktails like the Apples (made of calvados and er, carbonated pressed apples), and Champagne piña coladas ( – exactly what it sounds like), and truffled white negronis. There’s also going to be an impressively selected wine list alongside a fleet of French ciders.Read more…
